What’s your name?

Chelsey Johns

Who are you?

I’m the Founder and Editor of Like A Vegan, a vegan blog dedicated to all things food, fashion, beauty, travel and lifestyle.

At this moment, where are you writing from?

Right now, I’m sitting at my desk at home in Newcastle.

We noticed on your blog, Like a Vegan, that you love to travel. What has been your favourite place so far and do you know where you are going next?

Oooooof! That’s a tough one. If we’re talking eats, I’ve gotta say the US because they’ve got all bases covered; fast food, healthy stuff, sweet things and groceries are all outta control.

What are your top three tips for fellow vegans when travelling?

Do your research – there’s nothing worse than coming home from a trip and finding out you missed one of the best places to eat!

Get your apps on lock – Happy Cow is the best app for finding food near you. If you’re travelling to another country, you’re going to need to make sure your Google Translate app is ready to go.

Always have wifi – I cannot stress enough the importance of being connected while travelling, especially as a vegan.

What is your latest vegan discovery that you just can’t get enough of?`

I’m loving ColourPop’s new vegan No Filter Concealer because it’s taking care of all of those dark circles and making me look somewhat human when I’ve had a restless sleep!

Tell us a bit about your dog, Brett – is it easy to find vegan pet products?

Bretty!!! He’s my little rescue terrier that I adopted in June and I already can’t picture my life without him. Finding vegan products for adult dogs is easy peasy and they can really thrive on a vegan diet, but for puppies it’s not so simple, especially in Australia.

What’s one myth about veganism you wish you could set straight?

There are a ton of myths but the one that I find confuses people most is that it’s not a diet, it’s an all-encompassing lifestyle. Not only do vegans have to consider what we eat but also what clothing and beauty products we wear, what we use to clean our homes and a whole bunch of other things to avoid animal suffering as much as possible.

If you could invite three people to a meal with you at Lord of the Fries, who would they be and why?

This probably sounds a little lame but I’d invite three of my friends! While I don’t have many vegan friends, all of my pals are totally into vegan food and I love to share new delicious vegan eats with them to show them that I don’t just eat lettuce.

Lastly…potato or sweet potato?

I reckon I’ll cop some heat for this but sweet potato is pretty whack IMHO. I appreciate them as a healthier alternative but a proper white tater is really where it’s at.
